Back to School

On something of a whim, after seeing that Julian – who I’ve not even met – had signed himself up for an AS-Level in photography, I decided to jump on his bandwagon. And so tomorrow I shall be going back to school (Guildford College to be exact), camera in hand, attempting to learn stuff again. I’m not exactly sure what’s in store – the decision was whimsical enough for me to do minimal research; all I know is that the assessment comprises two pieces of coursework and a five hour controlled test (mm, that bit sounds fun). Still, looking before you leap is for losers. Possibly.

To get things off to a flying start, I’ve set myself a benchmark by taking this self portrait shot.

that’s going to be pretty difficult to better. You have all the required things you need in there, light, shadows, human interest (you’ll learn about all those things on your course) and a great big slaphead. What’s that blue thing on your head?

It’s the back of a cheap office chair :)

It is a bit of a scary photo – I didn’t realise my scalp coverage was quite so diminished.
